Last month, we relayed news from Italy that Achraf Lazaar is ‘approaching’ the exit door at Newcastle United.
On January 7th, Calciomercato reported the Morocco international wants to ‘close the experience’ at St James’ Park and find a new club this month.
So far, the 26-year-old has not been successful in leaving the Tyneside club and has less than a week to join another club.
Having failed to make a single appearance in any competitions for the Magpies, another Italian website Tutto Mercato Web now claims the left-back is no longer included in Rafael Benitez’s plans for this season.
Lazaar has previously played for Varese, Palermo and Benevento and the report suggests that he could return to Italy before the window closes.
So far, there has been a ‘strong interest’ from Cagliari, who have made him their goal for January.
With his contract at Newcastle set to expire in 2021, TMW doesn’t mention whether Cagliari are going to convert their ‘strong interest’ into an offer for Lazaar… but he sure’y wouldn’t be their ‘goal’ otherwise.
