In his first transfer window at Newcastle United, one of the players Rafael Benitez signed was Achraf Lazaar, who arrived at the club from Palermo in 2016.
The 26-year-old struggled for minutes in his debut season and the former Liverpool manager allowed the left-back to join Benevento on a season-long loan deal last campaign, where he made only six starts in the league.
Benitez has not included the Moroccan international in his squad this season and his future could now lie away from St James’ Park, if reports are to be believed.
Genoa and Frosinone are ‘interested’ in signing him in the winter market.
It’s claimed that Lazaar’s exit from Newcastle is ‘approaching’ and the aforementioned two Italian teams are looking at the option of adding him to please their new mangers, Cesare Prandelli and Marco Baroni respectively.
If either of the clubs manage to agree a fee with Magpies, they should be successful in securing Lazaar’s services since he is not included in Benitez’s plans at Newcastle.
