Newcastle United will have to pay between €23-24 million if they wish to turn Valentino Lazaro’s loan deal into a permanent one this summer.
That’s according to Gazzetta Dello Sport, who say that Inter are eyeing up a potential permanent exit as they look to boost their coffers.
Lazaro joined Newcastle on loan in the January transfer window, with the Magpies negotiating an option to turn it permanent should they wish.
Reports had indicated that clause was around the £20m mark and Gazzetta back that up, saying it is between €23m and €24m.
Inter are hoping that the clause will be activated, having labelled Lazaro as a ‘possible treasure’, with them looking for money to boost their accounts so they can conduct their own transfer business this summer.
At the moment, though, it is looking extremely unlikely that Newcastle will take up the option.
Earlier this week, we covered reports that the expectation was that they wouldn’t having had little opportunity to assess him.
They may be given more opportunity should the season ever return but at the moment that looks a distant prospect, which will probably see Lazaro returning to Italy.
That is something he will likely be happy about, especially given his agent made it clear he wasn’t all that keen on staying at St James Park earlier this year.
