On Friday last week, Eddie Howe sent alarm bells ringing over in Rotterdam when he hinted at the possible recall of Yankuba Minteh from his loan at Feyenoord.

The Newcastle United winger, bought in the summer, was immediately sent to the Eredivisie side to get some experience under his belt, where he has done well so far.

Three goals and one assist in 12 games have impressed Howe, and while he might want to recall him, Voetbal International journalist Martijn Krabbendam explains it isn’t that simple.

Taking to X, he explained that the ‘assumption’ that Newcastle can simply recall Minteh early ‘is not correct’, as his information shows that ‘the club and player must also agree to this’.

While that was rather ambiguous as to who the club are, FR12 elaborate a bit more on this, making it clear Feyenoord have a say.

Newcastle simply cannot recall the winger, and they ‘do not have a one-sided option’ to force him to return to the Premier League.

It’s stated that those in charge of the Rotterdam club, as well as Minteh, have ‘an important voice in this’, meaning that if Feyenoord want to keep the forward around until the end of the season, he will ‘continue to play football in De Kuip’.
