Newcastle United’s chances of signing Benfica star Goncalo Ramos now seem to be slim, with him instead destined for ‘a big name in a big league’.
That’s according to A Bola, who cover recent reports linking Manchester United and Bayern Munich to the Portuguese striker.
The newspaper adds that Newcastle are ‘also interested’ in the forward but his performances have seemingly put him out of reach.
They say that that the player is ‘reaching a level’ that would be ‘inaccessible to mid-table clubs’ such as the Magpies and while a move away from the Estadio da Luz is likely on the cards, it will involve a ‘big name in a big league’ and not them.
That figure has now increased and his tally of eight goals in 12 games, four in the Champions League, has not gone unnoticed around Europe and Benfica are aware of this.
They are now preparing a contract renewal, which will see the player increase his salary but also his release clause to €120m.
Thus, Newcastle and other suitors are going to have to pay a huge price to get their man, although as far as A Bola are concerned, that is very unlikely to happen.
