Newcastle United are in the picture to sign AS Monaco’s Vanderson, according to Sport.
The Ligue 1 club took the right-back from Brazil’s Grêmio in January. His fine displays in the second half of last term saw the club offer him a new five-year contract.
Along with Newcastle, Barcelona are also in the mix to secure the 20-year-old’s services.
Wednesday’s edition of Sport explains the La Liga side tried signing the Brazilian in the summer. Their sporting director, Mateu Alemany, contacted Monaco to ask for a price and they demanded €60m for the defender in the last window.
The South American continues to be on the Catalan club’s agenda. The report states that it has been decided this will be his last season at Monaco and this has alerted several clubs, including the Magpies.
Sport state Newcastle have ‘already begun to move to try to tie up the Brazilian’.
It needs to be seen whether Eddie Howe’s side can overcome Barca and other clubs to secure the player’s services.
Operating as a right-back and right wing-back, Vanderson has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season for Monaco.
