Chelsea’s need to bolster their defence in the summer saw them look at RB Leipzig’s Joško Gvardiol.

Towards the end of the window, reports from Germany stated the Blues made ‘almost an immoral offer’ of €90m to the Bundesliga side.

The 20-year-old not only didn’t move to Chelsea, but also signed a new deal at Leipzig on September 1st. The versatile player, who can operate in the heart of the back four or as a left-back, is currently with Croatia for the ongoing international break.

Gvardiol has made three league starts for Leipzig and was lagging in his preparation for this season due to fitness. He told this to reporters, while speaking to them from the national camp.

“I feel great, I’m healthy. I was a little behind at the beginning of the season due to rehabilitation, now I’m waiting for the opportunity and minutes and I’m trying to use them in the best possible way,” he said, as quoted by Index.hr.

The Croatia international was asked about the reports of Chelsea’s interest in securing his services. When responding to that, he said his leaves things to his representatives and hinter at a possible transfer consideration in the January window.

“I’m happy at Leipzig, I still have a lot to learn and need to work on myself. I have people who deal with it, I didn’t think about a transfer. We’ll see what happens in the winter,” Gvardiol explained.
