Newcastle United may be eyeing up another Yankuba Minteh like operation by potentially sending Antonio Cordero on loan to Ajax.
That’s according to the #DoneDeal podcast on Voetbal Primeur, who have been discussing the youngster and rumours about Ajax today.
Cordero is set to join Newcastle on a free transfer in the summer after they moved to wrap up the youngster ahead of the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid.
The question is what they plan to do with him from the summer onwards, with a report this week stating that he won’t be eligible to play for Newcastle so will be sent out on loan instead.
Ajax have been credited with an interest in the youngster, potentially offering him the opportunity to develop in the Eredivisie for a year as they continue to go from strength to strength under Francesco Farioli.
That’s a route Newcastle have taken with their players before after sending Yankuba Minteh to Feyenoord for a year before selling him to Brighton last summer.
And the #DoneDeal podcast believe that is the potential plan with Cordero as well as they discussed the Ajax reports this week.
“Ajax wants him, only he will most likely go to Newcastle. Real and Barca are probably also interested,” they said.
“But if he signs for Newcastle, Newcastle does not immediately have plans to use him in the first team, so they want to rent him out and that way he could still end up at Ajax. Sounds like a Yankuba Minteh story.
“It’s a bit of a question what construction it will be. If it’s a straight loan for Ajax then it might be a bit less interesting, because this isn’t a finished product yet.
“Yes, on that Newcastle for example, if he does really well at Ajax like they did with Minteh, they also sold him to Brighton. From the top of my head €45-50m. To get a percentage of that as Ajax that would of course also be possible.”
