According to repeated reports from around Europe, which can’t all be colluding to make the club look like they’re dithering, Newcastle United are interested in a whole group of players and ‘preparing’ offers for several.
Another one can be added to the list with Adama Diakhaby. French newspaper L’Equipe report Newcastle United ‘could’ make an offer for the Rennes striker in the ‘coming days’.
Rafael Benitez is said to be ‘particularly interested’ in signing the player, one of several the manager is apparently especially keen on.
Diakhaby is 20 years old and a left footed striker who can play anywhere across the front line, he has a contract with Rennes until June 2019.
Last season Diakhaby scored 5 goals and didn’t add any assists in 29 matches for Rennes across all French competitions.
The player wouldn’t fit into Benitez’s stated plan of wanting Premier League ready players, and those experienced in England’s top flight, but may be one for the future if combined with more senior acquisitions.
