Following Newcastle United’s scouting mission to watch Andreas Samaris on the weekend, the rumour is kept alive on Monday.
Newspaper Record writes today that the Magpies see the midfielder as an ‘appetising option’ now that his contract with the Eagles is close to expiring.
It’s claimed that Newcastle have the conditions to offer a salary and a signing prize better than those Benfica have put on the table for his extension.
Benfica have recently offered Samaris a little over €1m per season, and these numbers will not be increased, as this is the final offer.
Record claims that Samaris hasn’t turned down Benfica’s offer yet, but isn’t close to accepting it either, since he expects better options coming from outside of Portugal.
So if Newcastle United really have the conditions to make a better offer, which they probably do, it really looks like Samaris is a possible signing for the summer market.
Although Newcastle’s name could be being used to get a better offer from Benfica, the visit to the Estádio da Luz in the weekend makes this possibility a little more unlikely. Unless they were there to watch some other player.
