Earlier on Wednesday, we covered a story from TuttoMercatoWeb claiming that Manchester City were holding up Inter’s deal for Sochaux’s Lucien Agoumé.

The 17-year-old midfielder has been one of the nice surprises in Ligue 2 this year, even winning one of his team’s Player of the Month awards.

However, FCInterNews are reporting something new, with Newcastle United now joining the battle for Agoumé, because why not?

The website corroborates Manchester City’s interest in Agoumé, also revealing that Rafa Benitez made a late ‘blitz’ on Tuesday evening to convince the France U17 international to move to St James’ Park instead, to no avail.

The midfielder is said to have already made up his mind about moving to Inter, even if Newcastle United were ready to offer €8m for his services.

It just seems like it was too little too late from the Magpies, who might have stood a better chance if they’d gone knocking a month or so ago.
