Struggling for game time under Antonio Conte at Inter after his summer transfer from Hertha BSC, Valentino Lazaro agreed to move to Newcastle United on loan until the end of the season.
It took some time, but the deal eventually went over the line, which included a purchase clause the Premier League club could trigger.
Of course, if they did, the move would still be down to the player, and it appears he has already made his mind up about his future.
According to FCInter1908, Lazaro’s desire ‘would still seem to return to Milan, both for the lifestyle and for the importance of a club like Inter’.
Down the Serie A club’s end, ‘there is no hurry’ and they will ‘try to understand what Newcastle’s intentions will be’, while Antonio Conte doesn’t appear thrilled at the thought of using him going forward.
It’s said he ‘esteems him from a technical point of view, but does not recognise sufficient qualities in his character’.
The report goes on to explain Lazaro’s appearances, at Inter, ‘have always been limited by an evident emotional block that did not allow him to express himself according to what he was hoping for’, which is why things didn’t ‘flow in the same direction’ between player and club.
However, it seems the Newcastle loanee is intent on proving everyone wrong and is ‘still convinced he can play’ at the Serie A club.
An interesting situation brewing behind the scenes if true.
