Stefan de Vrij has a contract with Inter Milan which expires at the end of June, and that puts the Serie A side under some pressure with regards to his future.
The 30-year-old has played 31 matches so far this season, with a couple of short breaks due to injuries.
TMW report the defender’s exit from Inter Milan ‘could become a reality’ in the summer window, and Newcastle United are thrown into the mix. De Vrij is seen as a more plausible sale than Milan Skriniar, for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, Skriniar is open to talks on a renewal, so despite his contract also ending in 2023 there doesn’t appear to be the same worry. Secondly, De Vrij’s price is estimated at €20m which makes an exit easier.
Newcastle ‘would like to have him in their squad next season’, and the €20m obviously wouldn’t be an issue for them. It’s not clear whether this would be a back-up to their pursuit of Lille’s Sven Botman, or whether the Magpies would want to pair the two Dutchmen together.
