Newcastle United have ‘appeared on the scene’ for Ousmane Dembélé and are ‘pushing very hard’ to sign the Barcelona player.
That’s according to a ‘Top Secret’ report from Mundo Deportivo, who say the winger’s future is ‘further away’ from the Camp Nou.
His current deal expires in 2022. The La Liga side want to tie down the 24-year-old to a new contract, something that has been publicly stated by Xavi Hernández.
The manager is also trying to convince the Frenchman in private, to continue at the club after this term. Meanwhile. Barca leaders ‘continue to negotiate’ with his agent, Moussa Sissoko.
It’s claimed the Spanish club have ‘already sent an offer as attractive as possible’, but this was ‘considered insufficient’ by both the former Borussia Dortmund man and his agent.
Mundo state ‘it seems very difficult’ for Dembélé to be at Barca next season, even though he insists he wants to stay at the club. When discussing suitors, Newcastle get a mention.
The newspaper states the attacker has ‘received an astronomical proposal’ from the Magpies, worth €15m per season and a signing on bonus of €15m. In addition to this, his agent will also receive generous commission.
With this offer from Eddie Howe’s side, Mundo say Dembélé’s ‘head is more outside than inside Barca’.
Xavi’s side have not lost hope of retaining the France international, but, as of now, his future will be in the Premier League, where Newcastle are ‘in pole position’ to sign Dembélé.
