Earlier this week, A Spor explained Newcastle United will have a scout in attendance to follow Fenerbahçe star Arda Güler in action against İstanbulspor on Wednesday.
The tie ended in a 3-3 draw and the 18-year-old impressed for his side by scoring a brace.
Newcastle get a mention again in Haber 7‘s report as the Magpies are named as one of the clubs chasing the Turkey international.
Güler has mainly operated on the right wing and as an attacking midfielder, while has also been used on the left wing and as a second striker this season. He’s managed six goals and four assists from 27 games.
Last March, he signed a new three-year deal until 2025. This includes a €20m release clause for the first year of his new deal, which will rise to €25m for the second and €30m for the last year of his contract.
If Güler plays less than 1500 minutes in a season, a ‘special clause’ will come into effect, which will allow him to leave the Turkish club for €5m. This is the ‘danger’ Fenerbahçe could face after this season.
Güler has clocked 964 minutes this season and must play the remaining fixtures of this season so that Fenerbahçe don’t risk losing him for a ‘very cheap figure’ of €5m.
Haber 7 explain the teenager’s future is ‘expected to be determined soon’, also because several clubs, including Newcastle, are closely following the ‘special clause’ in his contract.
Eddie Howe’s side and other clubs are expected to keep a close eye on Güler’s situation to find out if the special clause can be activated in the summer.
