One of the big surprises of the season at Marseille, Bamba Dieng might not be staying for long with the Ligue 1 club.
That’s because Newcastle United, with all their money, are interested in signing the Senegal international, who has scored four goals in 14 Ligue 1 games this season, as well as picking up one assist.
Capable of playing through the middle as a centre-forward but also adept at coming in from the left, the 21-year-old, who only signed permanently from Diambars FC in his home country in the summer for £360k after a successful loan with Marseille’s B team, could earn the French side just under 35 times that in the coming days.
Foot Mercato are the ones reporting this, claiming Newcastle are ‘very hot’ on the youngster’s case, and are ahead of the rest of the Premier League competition, comprised of the likes of West Ham, Burnley or Crystal Palace.
A fee of at least €15m (£12.5m) was said to be Marseille’s valuation of the player, which could be classified as loose change for the Magpies’ new owners, but the French website explain they have ‘many other targets’ too.
That being said, ‘if they don’t manage to wrap them up, the St James’ Park residents will assuredly return to the assault’, willing to give a club who could do with some money just that: fresh income.
