Marcelo Bielsa being appointed as Lazio’s new manager has really messed up Marseille’s plans to bring back Florian Thauvin for another loan spell, as Corriere dello Sport report the Argentinean manager continues his pursuit of the French winger.

Currently a Newcastle player following the end of his six-month loan back to Marseille a few days ago, the player made it clear without realising that he was looking for a way out of Newcastle again, at least for this season.

His agent was reported to have met with Marseille last Thursday to discuss another loan, and Corriere dello Sport suggest Lazio could go one better by offering a loan with a view to buy for the 23-year-old.

Bought for around £12m, Lazio would be prepared to offer £10m at the end of the loan to make the deal permanent, but it all comes down to the player.

Slowly re-earning the trust of the Marseille fans, the winger finished the season strongly for the Ligue 1 side, and admitted you could not be insensitive to the club’s interest.

Then again, having failed to really explode in both France and England, a move to Serie A could be the breath of fresh air he needs with a manager who once came close to getting the best out of him.

It’s still very much in the air, but as things stand, it’s a two horse race for Thauvin.
