Spanish side Alavés are keen on a move for Newcastle United defender Florian Lejeune, and he has ‘shown his interest’ in returning to La Liga.
Marca report that Alavés are continuing their efforts to improve Pablo Machín’s squad this summer and two or three more additions are expected.
The ‘main objective’ at the club is to add another centre back so they can play with a back three and there are ‘several names on the table’ in that regard.
Lejeune is one of them as he is an ‘old acquaintance’ of Machín after working with him at Girona in 2015/16.
That opportunity to work with his former boss and return to Spain, as well as the ‘interest shown’ in him by Alavés in recent months, is making his decision to make the move ‘become a reality’.
So far there’s no agreement with Newcastle about a move, but the two clubs already have a relationship after working on a deal to take Joselu from St James Park last season.
Whether the Magpies would be open to a sale isn’t mentioned, but there’s every chance they will be, given Steve Bruce has five other centre backs at his disposal excluding Lejeune.
