Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web today details the race for the signing of New York City forward Valentin Castellanos, who’s been drawing the interest from several sides lately.
The report is mostly focused on the chase from Bologna, who seem to have been the latest side to follow the 23-year-old.
It turns out that the story also mentions two Premier League sides in the competition, and those are Everton and Newcastle United.
Not bringing any details, TMW only says that Toffes and Magpies are two of the clubs in the competition for the Argentine starlet.
Castellanos has 11 goals and five assists in 17 appearances for New York City this season, and his form in the MLS has been a starting point for many transfer rumours lately.
Still, it’s interesting to see Everton and Newcastle as the first Premier League sides to get mentioned.
The striker has been linked to South America giants such as River Plate and Palmeiras, and TMW even points out that the Buenos Aires side recently had a €14m bid turned down.
Now with Bologna, Everton and Newcastle added to the competition, it wouldn’t be crazy to read that the English clubs seem to have the biggest economic power in this race, and therefore could quickly become favourites.
