It seems Newcastle United have finally reached an agreement for the transfer of Ruben Semedo from Portuguese side Sporting.
According to O Jogo, there was a meeting on Wednesday where the Lions executives told the Magpies the defender can be sold for €14m.
It’s claimed that Newcastle have agreed to pay that fee for 80% of the player’s rights, but there are no details on how they’ll secure the rest. It’s worth recalling that third-party ownership isn’t allowed in the Premier League.
O Jogo’s first headline actually said the player was ‘sold’, which is also the word used in their URL. They’ve apparently changed it to ‘to be closed’, probably because they’ve jumped the gun a little.
On Wednesday, newspaper A Bola claimed that Newcastle had offered €12m plus €3m in bonuses. So it looks like the clubs have just found an agreement for the fee to be paid all at once.
