On Monday, Anderlecht got a surprise visit from one of their former players, as Chancel Mbemba was spotted in the club’s gym, running for miles on end on a treadmill.
This raised a few eyebrows, but rest assured Newcastle fans, no transfer has been planned.
Not yet, at least.
According to DH, the Newcastle defender made use of the three days off handed to players by Rafa Benitez to travel to Brussels, and because he isn’t exactly getting regular game time at St James’ Park, the DR Congo international used his former club’s facilities to stay fit.
A number of clubs are said to be interested in his services, and Anderlecht even asked about him, but were put off by the money it would cost to sort out any deal for Mbemba.
Perhaps we haven’t heard the last of this just yet.
