Newcastle United will return with a bid for Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet in the summer transfer window after they ‘wanted him’ in January.
That’s according to Sport, who say that the Magpies are ‘crazy about’ the defender and ready to invest to get him.
The newspaper explains that Barcelona ‘dream’ of two sales in the summer as they look to free up funds for incomings.
Lenglet and fellow defender Sergino Dest are the ones they have earmarked as those they can get rid of.
They believe that Lenglet is the ‘most marketable centre-back’ as, despite struggling at the Nou Camp, his ‘stock is still high’.
Left-footed with good ball control and considered an ‘excellent professional’, there are likely to be plenty of suitors, and Newcastle are one of them.
They are reportedly ‘crazy’ about the player, and there is ‘fresh money’ at St James Park to invest in both the transfer and the player’s salary.
They already wanted to sign him in the January transfer window, but found players were reluctant to sign at that point as they were something of an unknown quantity.
Now they’ve managed to drag themselves away from the relegation zone and look to be safe for next season, which should make it easier to convince players in the summer.
Lenglet is one they are planning on targeting and Barcelona are keen to do a deal and take Newcastle’s money if it is offered.
