Little by little, Newcastle United seem to be one of the top contenders for the signing of Napoli star Victor Osimhen, with several reports from Italy covering the chase.
The striker is expected to be the Serie A side’s most expensive sale when his exit happens, and with the Magpies looking forward to their first big summer window, they emerge as a club who could afford such a transfer.
An update is today shared by Calcio Mercato, who say Newcastle ‘want a great centre-forward to aim for a qualification in Europe’ next season, and Osimhen is said to be ‘at the very top of the rankings’. They refer to developments in the ‘last few hours’ which include the St. James’ Park side in the race.
According to the outlet, contact from the Magpies with Napoli is now ‘expected’ so the Premier League side can understand the ‘feasibility’ of the operation.
Calcio Mercato writes that only Premier League clubs can afford this signing, since Napoli are demanding at least €100m for the move. With the player not asking to leave, it’s club president Aurelio De Laurentiis who’ll make all the decisions.
Last week, the very same outlet claimed Newcastle are ‘ready to guarantee’ Osimhen a salary of €8-9m per season. That’s twice his wages at Napoli, and certainly one of the arguments the Magpies can use to win the big battle for his signing.
