With Newcastle United having a hard time to make the signing of Sevilla defender Diego Carlos, the Magpies are reportedly looking for alternatives in the last days of the January transfer window.
According to reports from Italy, the Premier League side are now targeting Marcão, from Galatasaray.
TuttoMercatoWeb‘s headline says Newcastle have decided to ‘change objective’ after the frustrations faced to sign Diego Carlos, with the new alternative described as ‘affordable’.
It’s said that Galatasaray will demand €15m for Marcão, which definitely makes him a reasonable option to be signed in the short time there’s left until the end of the winter market.
Marcão, who just like Diego Carlos, is Brazilian, started his career in his home country and then moved to Portugal.
That’s where he caught Galatasaray’s attention, having moved from Chaves to the Turkish side on a €4m deal.
This isn’t the first time Newcastle have been linked with the defender, as back in 2020, he was said to be ‘close’ to making the move to the Magpies.
Even though the club’s situation is now different, perhaps he never left the club’s notebooks?
