Newcastle United may not be done just yet.

Spain’s Cope are reporting that the Magpies have asked about signing Atletico Madrid’s Felipe in the final hours of the winter market.

Felipe is a 32-year-old Brazilian, who plays in central defence. His contract with Los Rojiblancos expires at the end of the season, so there’d be the possibility of a relatively cheap deal.

Diego Simeone still uses the experienced defender, and Felipe has made 20 appearances for Atletico so far this season. He was a regular during the last campaign, as the Madrid club won the La Liga title, and, of course, he has experience of playing with Kieran Trippier.

Cope report Atletico are looking to sign a central defender in the final hours of the window, partly because of the Newcastle interest in Felipe.

Should the Magpies push forward for a deal, then Simeone would look to get Clement Lenglet from Barcelona.
