Despite having already successfully bolstered their defence in the summer by acquiring Sven Botman from Lille, Newcastle United aren’t quite done yet.
With European football on the horizon, Eddie Howe knows he will need a deeper squad with more quality, and that’s why the idea of a new centre-back is still on the cards for the summer.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, one man has caught the eye of Newcastle in particular, and that’s Torino’s Perr Schuurs.
The 23-year-old has been a huge success story for the Serie A side since his arrival last summer for €14m, and there has been plenty of talk that he could be sold for a profit after just one season.
While there is ‘no offer yet’, it’s said the Magpies do ‘appear intent on making one’.
Money should be no issue for Newcastle, but it’s made clear ‘an important offer is needed’ to convince the club’s president, Urbano Cairo, to sell one of his star assets.
As for the amount needed, it’s said the player could leave for an amount ‘at least equal to double’ what Torino originally paid for him, meaning €28m minimum.
That’s not a huge fee for a club like Newcastle, meaning he should be attainable, even if it wouldn’t be surprising to see that fee creep up beyond €30m with some bonuses if Howe’s side do come forward.
