Now that Newcastle have just been promoted, the hard work of finding players capable of helping this current squad stay up next season is well underway.
One of the areas the club are seemingly looking at is their defence, with Gazzetta dello Sport claiming Rafa Benitez is looking at a rather prestigious signing if he sees off some tough competition.
The Italian newspaper report on Wednesday that the Magpies are one of four teams interested in Inter Milan centre-back Jeison Murillo, one of the likely departures from San Siro this summer.
However, Rafa Benitez will need to fend off his former club Valencia, Borussia Dortmund and Monaco to acquire the Colombian’s services, which, on financial terms alone, he should be able to do.
Yet, with two of those clubs capable of offering Champions League football next season, the prospect of European football could play against Newcastle.
The 24-year-old made 34 appearances for Inter Milan last season, scoring one goal and picking up one assist.
It wouldn’t surprise us if Benitez was interested in Murillo, especially if he is made available for a transfer by his club, and with previous links to other Premier League sides, he clearly has the attributes a few English teams are looking for.
