The Brazilian media today shares some updates on Newcastle United’s hunt for Santos wonderkid Marcos Leonardo.
According to Goal Brasil, the Magpies don’t have such big competition in the Premier League for the signing, as the reported contacts from Arsenal and Manchester United are dismissed.
Journalist Thiago Fernandes claims that ‘all parties’ deny that there’s interest from the Gunners and Red Devils in the signing.
Newcastle, meanwhile, are said to ‘continue interested’, as well as AS Roma. The story also claims that Real Madrid made ‘only a consultation’.
That basically confirms what many Brazilian outlets have been saying, as the Magpies’ chase for Marcos Leonardo has been reported by various sources.
The word in the local media is that Santos are ready to let the player go for €20-25m, and Newcastle are already aware of his price.
The lack of Premier League competition can only be good for the Magpies, as they won’t need to enter into such a strong auction for the signing.
Roma already tried to take him last summer, and after failing to meet Santos’ request, it’s hard to see them fighting Newcastle in January.
