Two days ago, Foot Mercato reported Chelsea have joined Real Madrid and Manchester City in the chase for Christopher Nkunku.

These claims are relayed by Bild, who provide RB Leipzig’s position on the possibility of letting go of their star in the near future.

Nkunku joined Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain in 2019 and signed a five-year deal with the Bundesliga side. There is no release clause in the midfielder’s contract, leaving the German club in an ‘ideal negotiating position’.

Leipzig’s current record sale stands at €60m, which they earned from Naby Keïta’s move to Liverpool.

It’s claimed Jesse Marsch’s side are looking for ‘a new transfer record’ to cut ties with the 23-year-old, meaning they need a fee in excess of €60m to let Nkunku leave the club.

The Frenchman played under the orders of Thomas Tuchel, featuring in 29 matches, in his final season at PSG.

Bild say the current Blues manager allowed the midfielder to leave the Ligue 1 side in 2019 because he was ‘unsure whether Nkunku was mentally ready for Europe’s top’.

Nkunku is now starring for Leipzig and has nine goals and three assists in 10 matches this season. According to the report, his performances have ‘finally dispelled’ Tuchel’s doubts about the former PSG man.

If Chelsea have a desire to secure the Leipzig man’s services, they have been told to invest in excess of €60m.
