With Newcastle United not done yet, we continue to see reports about the Magpies’ attempts to add more signings in the final hours of the January transfer window.
This evening, there are new claims about their hunt for reinforcements. They come from France, where it’s said the club tried to bring Georginio Wijnaldum back to St. James’ Park.
It had already been reported that Newcastle were trying to sign the midfielder from Paris Saint Germain, and according to Saber Desfarges, they made a new attempt ‘in recent hours’.
The offer, however, was once again turned down by the Dutchman, who’s staying at the Ligue 1 side, where he ‘wishes to succeed’.
All times it was reported Newcastle were interested in signing Wijnaldum this month, it was always said the player wasn’t interested in the move, and a price to buy him from PSG wasn’t even mentioned in any of the pieces.
So the failure to get him back to England very much looks like a personal rejection and never an issue between the clubs.
