On August 20th, we covered claims made in Italy that Leeds United had a conference call with FC Zürich after they made a €5m [excluding bonuses] bid for Wilfried Gnonto.

Earlier this week, Corriere dello Sport stated the Whites are €3m short of meeting Zürich’s demand of €8m to sanction the striker’s sale.

Jesse Marsch has confirmed Leeds’ interest in the 18-year-old, who has less than 12 months left on his contract.

The Premier League side haven’t given up on the Italy international if a report from Alfredo Pedullà is to be believed.

Leeds are ‘always very interested’ in Gnonto and ‘a new offer’ from them is ‘ready’ to take the teenager away from the Swiss Super League champions. They are demanding €7-8m for the frontman.

Having made a proposal of €5m plus bonuses a few days ago, it’s possible Marsch’s side ‘can raise’ their offer. The details of the bid the Whites plan to make are not mentioned.

If Leeds can’t agree a deal, it could open the door for Monza to make a late approach for the Italian.
