Unwanted at Leicester City despite him being their record transfer for a while, Islam Slimani needs to find himself a new club quickly to avoid his career stagnating further.
A disappointing loan to Fenerbahce last season didn’t really help, but winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria bumped his stock up a bit.
Reported to have been offered around in search of an exit strategy from King Power Stadium, the striker might have found a good option with Monaco, as France Football claim the principality club are in talks to sign the 31-year-old.
The interest comes from Leonardo Jardim, who knows Slimani well from their time at Sporting CP together, as the French magazine explain the contact between the two has never stopped.
Monaco already tried to sign the Leicester forward back in January 2018, wanting to loan him, but the Premier League club were only interested in a sale at the time.
However, there’s a belief things could be simpler this time around, and the Ligue 1 club are ‘optimistic’ about getting something done.
His profile is seen as ‘perfectly answering’ the needs of Leonardo Jardim, as Slimani can either play by himself up top or help out new signing Wissam Ben Yedder in a partnership.
A new avenue to explore for Leicester, and one they could certainly appreciate seeing as the principality club shouldn’t have too much issue meeting their or the player’s demands.
