Reliable Basque newspaper El Correo report there were ‘new contacts this weekend’ as Athletic Club Bilbao continuing with their efforts to get Fernando Llorente back to the club.
There’s at least a couple of problems in the potential deal.
Not everyone has forgiven Llorente for the way he left for Juventus, going on a free transfer against the club’s wishes and not bringing in the expected fee.
Athletic often expect their players to go at a time of the club’s choosing and for the high release clause which will be placed in a contract, the Tottenham player went against all of this and was subsequently ostracised even before his actual exit.
During the Basque club’s weekend victory over Sevilla there were some negative chants about Llorente from the stands, and whilst it’s obvious some would welcome the player back, it’s also obvious some are against it.
The next hurdle is getting Tottenham to sell during January and that may have just become more difficult because of the apparent injury to Harry Kane. Unless he can bring a replacement in, there’s got to be no way Mauricio Pochettino would let Llorente go.
