For all Manchester City fans missing Kevin De Bruyne, the 32-year-old had a quite long chat with the Belgian media to speak about how his recovery has been going.

The midfielder has only made two appearances this season. One of those came in the Community Shield and the other was in the opening fixture of the Premier League, and the player then suffered a thigh muscle injury.

De Bruyne took part in an event in Belgium to show Manchester City’s trophies and is now quoted by HBVL explaining his situation.

“I have never experienced this before, I have never had such a serious injury. A hamstring operation is not very common either. After the match against Burnley, we took scans, referred to several surgeons and they all said I needed surgery,” said De Bruyne.

“We are now three months in and I am doing very well, everything on track. I underwent my surgery with Geert Declercq. City is in daily contact with him and Lieven. But they have not given me a deadline for when I will be able to play football again.

“They want everything to be completely fine when I restart. This is an injury due to the succession of matches and risks I have taken throughout my injury. I already have more than 700 matches on the counter. Actually, you can compare it to a car that once had to go to the garage for major maintenance.”

Back when his injury was confirmed, Manchester City said he was expected to get sidelined for between four and five months, so he’s expected to be back on the pitch by the start of 2024.

The midfielder’s contract with Pep Guardiola’s side runs until 2025, and reports from the English media in the past few days claimed he could even be tempted by a move to Saudi Arabia.

However, before that, he seems eager to succeed at the Premier League side again, helping the team in the most decisive part of the season.
