Arsenal’s Fábio Vieira has been on loan at FC Porto since last summer and they haven’t secured a purchase option. As things stands, he has to return to the Emirates after this season.

On Thursday, Record reported Porto will send the midfielder back to Arsenal after the Club World Cup that will start in June.

There’s been a turnaround with the Arsenal man’s situation at Porto. That’s at least what Friday’s edition of Jornal de Notícias are reporting.

The 24-year-old will be with the Dragons until the Club World Cup and could continue with them next season.

He struggled for fitness at the start of the season before cementing his place in the side. The attacking midfielder managed five goals and five assists for Porto, of which three goals and three assists are from this year.

Vieira’s performances in the second half of the season have convinced Porto to retain him. The report’s title says Porto president André Villas-Boas will try to keep the Arsenal man for next season.

Within the report, Jornal de Notícias state negotiations with Arsenal will take place for the Portugal international. They add Porto could consider buying him in the summer window.

This is contradictory to what was reported by Record yesterday. It remains to be seen if Jornal de Notícias’ claim will be backed or dismissed by others in Portugal.
