Lyon are on the search for a central defender, reports Sunday’s edition of L’Equipe.
The only one they have right now who gives the club security is Jason Denayer, with Joachim Andersen still failing to fully impose himself in Ligue 1 since his much heralded move from Sampdoria.
There’s disagreement at Lyon over whether they should go for a young signing with potential, as they did with Andersen, or instead opt for someone with plenty of experience.
The latter idea motivated them to start negotiations over signing Crystal Palace’s Mamadou Sakho. These talks appear to be with the player’s entourage, rather than the Premier League club, as it’s claimed contract proposals have already been made.
Sakho is an option which remains ‘active’, although there’s been no progress made on the signing in recent weeks. Even if the defender were to agree to a Lyon move, the French club would then have to enter further talks with Crystal Palace, meaning this could be more difficult than Lyon imagine.
PSG’s Thiago Silva has also been considered, but his wages are prohibitive.
