If there’s one thing Anderlecht are really proud about this season, it’s the fact they managed to keep Jérémy Doku at the club.
Since things aren’t going too greatly on the pitch these days (they’re currently fourth, eight points off top), and the older players aren’t performing, they’ve decided to give the youth some chances, which includes the 16-year-old winger.
However, things could have been very different if Doku had chosen to go to Liverpool, who really wanted him last January and over the summer.
In fact, Sport/Foot explain his talks with Jürgen Klopp’s side were ‘so advanced’, the club owner himself had to step in to convince him to stay and offer him a great contract by Anderlecht’s standards.
It was still only half what Liverpool were ready to give him, but as the magazine reveal, it’s not like he’s going to go hungry anytime soon, as his three year deal will get him between €500k and €1m depending on whether he triggers bonuses.
Not bad for a 16-year-old, to be honest.
