Liverpool and Napoli are reportedly tussling to sign Kevin de Bruyne, with another deal in the pipeline involving the two clubs.
The player in question is Reds’ forward Darwin Núñez, who interests the Italian giants as they look to improve their squad in the summer.
Journalist Ciro Venerato has told TG Sport that talks between Napoli and Liverpool are ongoing and Núñez can potentially become a key target soon.
He said, as relayed by TuttoNapoli: “In attack, major moves continue. For the free agent David, the commission issue remains.
“It is no coincidence that the Azzurri management has started a parallel negotiation with Liverpool for Núñez.”
This clearly suggests that Napoli’s move for the Uruguayan largely depends on their move for Jonathan David, who is a free agent. Club have been struggling to meet his salary demands and Napoli could walk away.
Núñez sale could be something Liverpool seriously in the coming weeks. Things haven’t seemed right around the Uruguayan for some time, and there were claims from Portugal that the Reds have been avoiding starting Núñez because they want to skip paying an upcoming bonus to Benfica.
Should he be edged out of Liverpool this summer then a move to Napoli would surely be attractive for the 25-year-old.
