Former Rangers defender Cribari has heaped praise on the club but says they are ‘neglected’ and deserve more attention.
The Brazilian moved to Rangers on a free transfer from Cruzeiro Esporte Clube, joining them when they found themselves in the Scottish Third Division after being relegated down the leagues.
He ended up staying in Scotland for two years, managing 43 appearances in all competitions before retiring in 2014.
His time at the club saw them achieve promotion twice, first going up to the second division under Ally McCoist before securing a place in the Championship the following year under Walter Smith.
“In Scotland football is exciting, the play is more dynamic and physical, but much less qualitative and tactical,” he told Lazio News 24.
“Rangers meant a lot to me, they are a huge club, a great structure, exceptional fans and a beautiful stadium. Football is lived in a different way; you are closer to coaches and players.
“It’s very neglected but deserves more attention; it’s nice to see.
“I am proud to have been part of a club like this and to have shared such a dark moment in their history, fortunately then we were able to bring the team back where it deserved to be.”
Whether Rangers will ever receive the attention that Cribari believes they deserve in future remains to be seen.
Scottish football is not what it used to be and finding investors willing to spend their money in it is a hard task, to say the least.
The best Steven Gerrard’s side can hope for is using European football to their advantage, as Celtic have done, but that is something that is much easier said than done.
