Watford defender José Holebas has called fort he Premier League season to be brought to an end, and Liverpool crowned as champions.
Football across Europe currently finds itself suspended indefinitely as countries battle against the spread of Coronavirus.
England had hoped to see their divisions return by the end of April at the latest, but that is now looking likely to be an unfeasible target.
Should it become apparent that football cannot return, conversations will have to be held about whether the season is voided or the current standings are upheld.
The latter option would see Liverpool, who are currently top of the Premier League and 25 points clear, crowned as champions for the first time in 30 years.
There is an argument that technically they haven’t won the league yet, but Watford defender Holebas doesn’t buy into that.
“I’m very clear for a season break,” he told Sky Sport Germany.
“I also want Liverpool to be named champions because they really deserve it.
“This year they have played incredible football and are clear in first. I see absolutely no sense in moving the dates every time.”
Of course, ending the season now would be very beneficial for Holebas and Watford at this moment in time.
They currently sit 17th in the table outside of the relegation zone by a single goal, so would avoid the drop if the current standings were upheld.
Whether the Premier League will take such an action seems unlikely, though, with plenty of clubs likely to offer up resistance given the current standings.
