A few months ago, the Mexican media used to be very confident that Raul Jimenez would be joining the U-23 team to play the Olympics in Tokyo.
With the recovery of the Wolverhampton Wanderers star looking fine, it didn’t seem precipitated to consider his return for the competition in the summer.
The striker, however, is still to get back to playing for Wolves and that’s why Mexico’s plans for him have now been postponed a little.
Journalist David Faitenson spoke to his podcast La Mirada de Faitelson this week, and brought the latest news on the national team.
He claims that Chicharito Hernandez could be called up for the Olympics, as they will keep waiting for Jimenez’ full recovery.
“Of course, there’s also the case of Raúl Jiménez who will have to go through a long recovery period due to the injury he suffered a while ago. We all think that the Wolverhampton striker will be Mexico’s centre-forward in the World Cup and even in the qualifications,” said Faitenson.
Faitenson also claimed that Mexico will respect Wolves and wait on the club’s decision until they call Jimenez to the national team again.
“But we will have to see how he returns and, more importantly, how the English team will manage his return to the fields, after coach Nuno Espírito Santo has already said that they will first have to evaluate him before authorising him to play for Mexico.”
In the most recent quotes from Wolves manager Nuno Espírito Santo, it was claimed that the striker ‘is almost ready to go’, but with no set date for his return yet.
