Argentina aren’t in the position they’d like to be for World Cup qualification. The South American group is particularly difficult to navigate and Argentina haven’t had it easy.
Losing 2-0 to Bolivia last week made things worse, as did Lionel Messi’s ban and the injury to Ramiro Funes Mori. The Everton defender tore the meniscus in his left knee during the Bolivia match and has since undergone surgery.
Whilst it’s doubtful Funes Mori can play again for Everton this season, Argentina are confident he can be available for their next crucial international. There’s a friendly planned against Brazil in June, taking place in Australia, but Argentina are more concerned about the crunch qualifier against Uruguay.
That takes place at the end of August and it would be a worry if Funes Mori isn’t back by then. Argentine newspaper Clarin say the national team sent their doctor to England to oversee Funes Mori’s treatment, and all is going to plan.
Ronald Koeman will just hope that should Funes Mori be back on song then, Everton don’t get another injury headache due to an important World Cup Qualifier.
