Chelsea won the FA Cup after defeating Manchester United 1-0 in the final at the weekend, but even with the trophy, a section of the Stamford Bridge faithful still views the recently concluded season as a failure because they failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Antonio Conte has won silverware in his two seasons at Chelsea, but that will likely not be sufficient for him to keep his job. The Italian coach is edging closer towards the exit and Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri could replace him at the west London club.
Sarri has an €8n release clause in his contract. According to CalcioNapoli24.it, the manager has already turned down the opportunity to replace Roberto Mancini at Zenit Saint Petersburg and has set his sights on the Chelsea job.
The Blues owner, Roman Abramovich, will have to pay Conte an exit fee. So paying Sarri’s €8n may turn out to be too expensive for Chelsea. Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is ready to make an offer which could please both clubs.
CalcioNapoli24 say Napoli are ready to allow Sarri to join Chelsea even without paying his release clause. However, as a part of the deal, the Premier League outfit should allow a player, with David Luiz mentioned, to join the Italian club for a discounted price this summer.
Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti is set to replace Sarri at Napoli. The signing of Luiz would see the Brazilian defender reunite with his former manager at the Stadio San Paolo.
