After losing Ricardo Pereira and Diogo Dalot to Premier League clubs, it seems that Porto are now afraid that fullback Alex Telles could end up moving to England as well.
This Monday, newspaper Correio da Manhã brings a story saying there’s some big interest from English clubs in the 25-year-old, and it could turn out to be a huge problem for the Dragons.
To name the clubs who would be following the player, the outlet takes some past claims which linked Telles to Chelsea, Liverpool and Wolves.
What these clubs have in common is that they can get Telles for the same price, as he has an affordable release clause of €40m.
Porto have already tried to extend Telles’ contract and increase the release clause’s amount, but haven’t succeeded so far. That’s why they’re so concerned he could simply leave in the summer.
The player’s wish to play in England has never been a secret, especially after his agent told Sport Witness that he felt Telles would play for Chelsea one day.
As Correio da Manhã takes old claims to name the English pretenders, they don’t make it clear why England is the most likely destination for now. It sounds they were just partially briefed, with some mystery around which club could be taking Telles this summer.
