The stay of the Brazilian national team at Tottenham Hotspur’s training centre is resulting in a few nice stories in the South American press.
We’ve covered the praise that Spurs’ facilities have been getting, with claims that Brazil chose to stay there instead of picking Manchester United’s complex.
Now we have more of a ‘in your face’ kind of story, as Lance reports the return of Paulinho to Tottenham Hotspur’s facilities.
The fact that the midfielder was picked as the ‘worst signing in the club’s history’ is now seen as a joke, as the player now goes back to London as a Barcelona player, and a Brazil star for the World Cup.
Paulinho was sold from Corinthians to Tottenham in 2013 in a €20m deal. He only lasted two seasons at Spurs, before being transferred to Chinese side Guanghzou Evergrande for only €14m.
He did pretty well in China, and even returned to the national team after that. Guanghzou coach Ivo Wortmann spoke to Lance about that: “We used to say that he was a Seleção player. When Dunga left, Tite sent people there to watch his game. Okay, that was enough.”
That was enough for Barcelona as well, who paid €40m for the midfielder in the last summer. Now on a higher status, Paulinho has his comeback to Spurs highlighted by Lance, who jokes with the Portuguese expression which says ‘for English to see’.
“Thus, Tottenham’s “worst signing in history” returns to the club more than valued and as one of the hopes of Brazil for the so dreamed sixth title. Such a turnaround, not for an English to see”.
