As long as Olivier Giroud doesn’t sign a new contract with Chelsea, stories about his future will be written.
That comes as part of the package with transfer rumours, and with so much interest in his services in January, it’s no surprise to see talk continuing these months.
It also helps the Frenchman has been used far more of late by Frank Lampard, more out of necessity than anything else, and he’s managed to have the impact many expected him to.
On Tuesday, Corriere dello Sport state that a move from Lazio in the summer for Giroud ‘remains possible’, reminding everyone the player had ‘already said yes’ to a move in late January before Chelsea blocked a departure.
The newspaper explain both Igli Tare (the director of football) and Claudio Lotito (the club’s owner) have offered the same contract from January for July, and ‘maintain a certain type of advantage’.
Down Giroud’s end, the player will ‘think about his future calmly’ and will ‘evaluate various offers’, as he’s expected to get many as a free agent.
