Celtic’s Moussa Dembele usually spends the end of a transfer window being linked with Premier League clubs by the UK media, but perhaps this time it’s a little different, at least so far.
Links with Marseille have instead been popping up, and that fits in with the French club’s search for a new senior striker.
For what feels like the entire summer, Marseille have been trying to sign Mario Balotelli from Nice. But there’s been issues over cost both in terms of wages and transfer fee, and Mino Raiola, Balotelli’s agent, is also said to have been a source of trouble on the deal.
Marseille are therefore being linked to other players, so the claim of Celtic’s striker potentially moving to Marseille was quickly picked up by the French media.
L’Equipe have taken steps to find out how much truth is in the claims, and after speaking to Dembele’s entourage it would appear things aren’t really off the ground.
The French newspaper reports they’ve been told there’s no contact with Marseille, nothing at Dembele’s end to suggest a deal is in motion.
That would be a relief for Celtic and manager Brendan Rodgers.
