Earlier today, we covered an article from an Italian newspaper suggesting that Jorge Mendes, long time friend and agent of José Mourinho, could help bring some of his clients to AS Roma.
The name mentioned by Gazzetta dello Sport was that of Rui Patricio, currently at Wolverhampton Wanderers, as the need for a new goalkeeper in the Italian capital is rather dire.
That’s why it isn’t surprising to see other outlets also offer solutions for the problem at hand, with Corriere della Sera going the extra mile with theirs.
While Olympiakos’ José Sa, also a Mendes client, would be the more, let’s say, attainable target, the daily newspaper state ‘another name is that of David De Gea’.
Described as having been ‘benched’ by Dean Henderson, the Spaniard, whose last game in the league was against Chelsea towards the end of February, would be a goal of Mourinho’s.
So much so, in fact, that the Portuguese manager ‘will use all his knowledge to try to have him on loan’ in an operation ‘similar to the one Walter Sabatini pulled off with Wojciech Szczesny’ all those years ago.
We’ll have to see about that, because even if De Gea has been replaced by Henderson for the time being due to a good run of games with the Englishman between the sticks, there’s been no indication the club actually want to get rid of the Spaniard.
Even less so in a deal that would help out a former manager of theirs.
