Seven months ago, we covered the reports from Brazil saying Manchester United had hired scout Paulo Henrique Xavier to look for young talents in the country.
The official, who had previously worked for the Brazilian FA, was to be joining the former Arsenal scout Sandro Orlandelli to form a mini-staff in the South American country under the orders of José Mourinho.
But it seems that Xavier’s job didn’t last long. As reported by UOL this weekend, the scout has already left Manchester United as he was invited by Real Madrid to work for them.
Besides the general scouting job, the Brazilian will now also follow the development of Vinícius Jr., the Flamengo wonderkid who was bought by Madrid in May this year and will only move in the summer of 2019.
The 17-year-old has been getting few minutes for the Brazilian club and Real Madrid want someone to be watching him closely. So far, they are satisfied with the player’s improvement, especially in physical terms.
Real Madrid paid €45m for the starlet, and as reported by Sport Witness at the time, Manchester United were one of the English clubs also interested.
Now Flamengo want to protect him so much that they didn’t let the kid travel with Brazil to play the U17 World Cup in India.
