After Manchester City failed in their efforts to land Milan Skriniar in January, Italian website Calciomercato now claims that in the last few months, Manchester United are considered as the most ‘fearsome’ club to make an offer for the Inter Milan defender in the coming January window.
The report claims Jose Mourinho wants to bring in a centre-back in the winter transfer window, it’s a requirement, and he is still interested in the Slovakian international.
The ex-Chelsea manager, who is an admirer of the Serie A player, is ready to table an offer of €60-€65m for him in the mid-season transfer window.
However, any move for the former Sampdoria man anytime soon looks unlikely. It’s claimed the Portuguese tactician is losing strength in the eyes of the top chiefs of the club and Manchester United leaders would be unlikely to back their manager to such an extent even if he remains in the job that long.
This is why the Nerazzurri are not really worried about losing the 23-year-old as they believe Mourinho’s decline will slow down any approach for their star player in January.
Due to the current situation at United, the player’s representative has seen a decline in contact with the Red Devils, meaning a move for Skriniar at the turn of the year may be discarded and he could sign a new deal at the San Siro.
